Welcome to Kindergarten with Mrs. Nishita

Welcome to Kindergarten in Room 8 at Brockton Elementary School.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the families of my new students. My name is Mrs. Nishita. This is my nineteenth year of teaching and my sixteenth year at Brockton. I am very excited about the upcoming year and I am eager to work with you in order to made kindergarten productive and fun for your child. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. The best time and place to catch me is after school in the classroom. The school phone number is (310) 479-6090. My email address is knishita@lausd.net. I hope to maintain close ties with all of you to better serve the needs of your children.
Our Language Arts and English Language Learning program is "California Treasures." and the math program is "My Math." We also make time for Social Studies, Science, and Art. We have dance on Tuesday morning and music later in the year on Thursdays. Physical Education is part of our daily curriculum so students should wear comfortable shoes every day. Please teach your child how to tie their shoes or have them wear shoes with Velcro.
It is important that children be present and on time so that they can receive the maximum amount of instruction and minimize the number of interruptions. The first bell rings at 8:10 a.m. and all children must be lined up in the auditorium. The teacher walks the class to the room and instruction begins at 8:15 a.m. Breakfast-In-the-Classroom is served daily in our classroom from 8:15-8:30. Students must be finished eating by 8:35 so we can clean up and start instruction.
At the end of the school day, the teacher will walk the students to the north gate in kindergarten yard where you will meet your child. Please be on time. For safety reasons, your child is not permitted to wait for you in front of the school. Brockton does have an after-school program called KPE. Please inquire in the office about this program.
If your child is absent, he or she needs to return to school with a written note or a doctor's note explaining the absence. Please keep absences to minimum as students really miss a lot of learning during the time they are out.
Your child needs 11 hours or more of sleep at night--so bedtime should be no later than 8:00 p.m.
It's going to be a great year!
